Tips

Planning Your Landscape

  • In the San Antonio area plan on using drought tolerant grass
  • Don’t plant grass in shady areas
  • Call us for a quote on a new Sprinkler System

Preparing Soil

  • You’ll need at least 4-6 inches of topsoil for a healthy lawn
  • A good soil will contain about 1/3 each, sand, clay and compost
  • Kill the weeds with a post emergent herbicide, no pre-emergent herbicides

Watering

  • Newly planted lawns need to be kept damp for the first ten days
  • Water good once a day for the next 10 to 14 days
  • After your first mowing, fertilize and water deeply twice a week

Transition From Cool to Warm Season Grass

  • Try not to fertilize until the soil temperature is 70 degrees or higher
  • At that time start watering once a day to encourage germination
  • Keep the winter grass cut short so the new seedlings can get sun

Care & Maintenance

  • Cut your lawn short each spring and fertilize
  • Mow regularly enough so that you don’t cut more than 1/3 of the plants height off at any mowing
  • Keeping leaves, grass clipping removed and frequent mowing and fertilization will encourage a denser turf
